We had rented an apartment in Paris for 5 days and then a week ago found out there had been water damage and it was no longer available. We arrive there in two weeks so we didn't have much time so have been recommended another and have been sent the rental contract from the owners. On reading contract we find that we supposed to be carrying a valid insurance policy against theft,fire ,water damages to cover the real estate and existing house furnishings as well as third party claims from neighbours. Our travel insurance certainly would not cover for these things and we are not sure if this is a common request for all apartment rentals. We will have to see what australian insurance companies will cover but it seems that maybe just using hotel accomodation will be a lot less trouble at this late stage.
